Our goal has always been to breed a complete Dobermann – stunning dog with beautiful temperament that can win shows worldwide but also has an excellent character that can pass BH and ZTP exams and compete in Schutzhund / IPO to the highest level. Our Dobermanns are today trained for obedience, to be Schutzhund/IPO working dogs, search dogs, arson detection dogs, police, agility, obedience and therapy dogs. This page will be devoted to all those Altobello dogs living worldwide that are being trained from youth obedience and socialization to adults with Sch III level and working competitions.

Our kennel even though among many Dobermann fans has been recognized primarily as kennel breeding Champions, has had numerous successes in ZTP and working trials like Schutzhund worldwide over the years and we will devote a special section with information and presentation of these Altobello dogs.

- Altobello Working School -

Altobello kennel after a long time of individual trainings finally founded a Working School two years ago that achieved remarkable results in a very short period of time. The team includes Veljko and Silvia Stanisic and Silvia Kovach from “Darkfall” team who are trainers with over 20 years of experience in training Malinoas, GSDs, Rottweilers and Dobermanns and with impressive results in working (IPO) competitions in the country. One special section in this web site will be devoted to the results of our Working School.

Today Altobello Working School provides training in BH+ZTP, IPO/Sch, obedience, agility, tracking and protection work – not just for Altobello Dobermanns but also dogs of other breeds and from other countries. Veljko Stanisic also holds regular seminars across Europe.

- Dobermann as a Working Dog -

Bred for a century to be an outstanding guard dog, the Dobermann is intense and energetic with tremendous strength and endurance. Versatile, highly intelligent and very easy to train, they are determined, fearless and assertive, but not vicious. Dobermanns are noble, loyal and affectionate family members.

These remarkable dogs like to be physically close to the family members - devoted and watchful, they are very people oriented breed. The Dobermann needs an owner who is willing and able to discipline the dog without being afraid of him. The Doberman is naturally protective and for basic level of this instinct at adult age does not need additional "protection" training to be a fine guard dog. In fact he should be thoroughly socialized when young to prevent over-protectiveness. Mental stimulation is important for a truly well-adjusted and happy Dobermann. Training that is recommended and that we practice at “Altobello Working School” is through positive reinforcement. Dobermanns can be excellent family dogs if of good temperament, well trained and raised with children from early puppy hood.

Although the Dobermann has the reputation of being a very aggressive dog, this is absolutely not the case. For example, Dobermanns make great therapy dogs. They are sweet and gentle with nursing-home patients - tipsy-toeing around and walking at the resident's/child’s speed (which can be very slow), while at the same time will fiercely defend his master if it becomes necessary. These dogs are like big, protective babies. Dobermanns have many talents including tracking, watch dogging, guarding, police work, military work, search & rescue, therapy work, competitive obedience and Schutzhund (IPO). The Dobermann  has been bred to work with man, and he needs this interaction often. They must be with a family or devoted owner, and not abandoned in the backyard.
